Scouts
Age Range: 10½ years to 14 years
The Troop is organised into small teams of Patrols. Each Patrol has two youngsters as leaders (the Patrol Leader and Assistant Patrol Leader). Each Patrol is also named after a bird of prey, giving them their own individual identity.
The patrol works together and its members move through the progressive training scheme, which involves showing commitment and taking an active part in the planned programme and completing some of the eight Challenge awards.
The challenge awards are: Adventure, Community, Creative, Expedition, Promise, Fitness, Global, Outdoor, and Outdoor Plus. A Scout will need to complete a least eight of the nine challenge awards to gain the Chief Scout’s Gold Award.
There are also 70 activity badges to be gained also covering a wide range of interests and activities.
Some of these are:
Interest Badges... Athlete, Camp Cook, Crafts, Cyclist, Hobbies, Librarian and Photographer.
Pursuit Badges... Astronomer, Camper, Canoeist, Chef, Forester, Mechanic, Naturalist, Skier, Air Activities and physical Recreation.
